Universal has acquired the rights to the frist 11 Elvis Costello albums, which run from 1976’s My Aim is True through 1986’s King of America. Despite the fact that two prior reissue sets from Rykodisc and Rhino and have bled Costello fans completely dry in the past decade, Universal claims this new batch will be “definitive reissues”, featuring deluxe digipak editions, box sets, and – the ever ubiquitous Costello products – more Best Of compilations. I’m not sure how much more comprehensive these reissues can be, considering both Rykodisc’s and Rhino’s exhaustive campains. I mean, how many rare versions of “Radio Sweetheart” possibly exist, much less demand further listening? I’m a complete Costello disciple, and I’m even annoyed by the prospect of having to buy these all over again.
