I don’t know how reliable this is, but The Tripwire is reporting via a Cure fansite that Robert Smith allegedly has said the collaboration with Ashley Simpson is not true, although he is not quoted directly.
It’s only a small relief, considering he can’t take back collaborations with Korn or Blink-182 or Ross Robinson. Seriously, Robert Smith has fucking lost it, whether this pans out or not. When was the last good Cure record? That would be 1989. So, that means irrelevance (and a steady diet of Doritos) have been fueling this man’s motives for almost two decades now.

To say that the last Cure record was in 1989 (perhaps pertaining to ‘Disintegration’) is of course, subjective. As a listener of The Cure since the early ’80s, I compared every album with each other. Of course, there’s always the common denominator, and every album produces great songs, though ignored because of the quick turn up of albums and artists nowadays. Wish, Wild Mood, The Cure each has its share of great Cure moments. Like “High,” “Round and Round,” “Maybe Someday,” and “Taking Off.”
