Japanese noise experimentalists Boredoms have always taken the road dared to be traveled, and the band’s plans for July 7, 2007 are no exception. With 77 drummers in tow, the band will perform 77BOADRUM as a one-time-only, free show in the Empire-Fulton Ferry State Park section of Brooklyn Bridge Park. 74 players from New York’s avant-garde scene, which includes members of Gang Gang Dance, No Neck Blues Band, Sunburned Hand Of The Man, Excepter, Sightings,
and Oneida, were chosen by the event’s music director, Hisham Bharoocha. It will be a live sculpture built out of musicians, as Boredoms will serve as the centerpiece surrounded by coiling layers of drumkits. The impetus for the show stems from the significance of the number 7 in Japanese culture.
