The film, which chronicles the (sad) lives of obsessive Morrissey fans has no release date as of yet, but it’s called Passions Just Like Mine and is currently in post-production:
“The stories will be told through the eyes of the fans themselves. Audiences will be able to see first hand how obsessed these fans really are and how they become that way.”
For some reason watching that trailer reminds of when MTV would show news stories on Michael Jackson (before he got little boys drunk up on Jesus juice and diddled them), where Japanese girls would invariably be screaming and crying just at the sight of him. I never understood what was going on exactly, but fans like this are beyond scary. If I were Morrissey, I would become a “studio” musician immediately and eff playing live. Who would chance running into these freaks?

I remember seeing ole Moz at an Opera house outside of LA in the mid to late ’90s where the crowd went absolutely batshit insane when he played a Smiths song. Like guys crying, throwing gladiolas, passing out total Beatlemania, etc. It was almost like what I’d imagine attending a cult like event would be like. Fast forward 10 years to when I saw Morrissey last month. I went expecting to see the same screaming, crying crowds as well as loads of latinos like I’d always read/heard about, but the audience was primarily aging hipsters and exurb yups. (It could have been the venue or the excessive ticket price, I suppose).
Oddly, Morrissey played several Smiths tunes at this show to which the crowd roared their approval, but I witnessed no crying, or anything remotely obsessive.

No mestizos or supplicating fans last month; several look-a-likes though. One kissed me on the cheek…and I can’t say I didn’t like it.
