Famous mainly for opening for the Sex Pistols at Winterland on the last date of the Pistols’ first American tour, The Avengers were as punk rock as you could get. The band never even released an album during its life span, which was only about two years (1977-1979). The band’s rudimentary punk sparked enough interest for several posthumous releases, however, the best of which was the self-titled compilation LP in 1983, also known as the “pink album” (which is way out of print, but you can download it for 10 bucks here). And since no band is exempt from the reunion disease, two original members of the Avengers (vocalist Penelope Houston and guitarist Greg Ingraham) have regrouped to put together some sort of tour. I’m not sure that this will “cash in” exactly, but one can never underestimate the power of punk rock nostalgia.
