The words Nine Inch Nails and hip rarely share the same paragraph, much less the same sentence, but with the announcement that Interscope’s last chance to make any money off Trent Reznor is a remix album, a few credible names have popped up. Evidently, the likes of Fennesz, The Faint, Ladytron, and New Order have remixed tracks off Year Zero to create Nine Inch Nails’ Y34RZ3R0R3MIX3D. Reznor has given friends and strangers alike carte blanche with his music, a laudable and daring move that will be available in multiple formats: digital download, a triple-vinyl set and a CD/DVD-ROM. Reznor has even gone one step further and embedded the CD/DVD-ROM with multi-track files that fans can manipulate on their own. The experiment is out November 20.
