Despite an overwhelming curiosity factor, the fact that Kim Deal has taken a stance opposing a new Pixies album is probably a blessing in disguise. Black Francis recently spoke to The Gothamist, saying, “While I may have tried to convince her otherwise, maybe she’s got a point… She doesn’t need a new Pixies record, so maybe there doesn’t need to be one.” Deal is surely aware of how badly reunion records typically turn out. Just ask The Smashing Pumpkins. And the inevitable backlash could taint a legacy well worth preserving. She’s currently at work on a new Breeders record with Steve Albini behind the boards, but The Breeders’ legacy is obviously not as important to her. Or anyone else.
