So, it’s not quite the X-rated debauchery it was hyped to be, but Duran Duran’s new video for “Falling Down”, the first single off the forthcoming Red Carpet Massacre, is indeed a head-scratcher. I’m not sure I have the plot straight, but a sleaze bag in a limo drops off his girlfriend at some sort of insane asylum for ridiculously hot models, where the members of Duran Duran serve as analysts, peeping Toms, researchers, and all around stranger lurkers before bursting into a full-band performance in front of a scantily clad audience forced to sit through proceedings, which might actually heal their woes. It’s no “Girls on Film”, to be sure, with its randomly oily sumo wrestlers, iced nipples and hairdryers, but it tries. Maybe, the good stuff will be released on the inevitable “unedited” version.

It’s the revolving door syndrome that occurs with celebrities and rehab. The dialogue at the start is sadly, probably very accurate considering the subjects. I think it’s quite effective. The black and white coloring is beautiful and I dig the string music at the start and finish. I’m not a Duran Duran fan in general, but this video drew my attention to the song. Thank god it’s not another Girls on Film video, one 80’s coke fest was enough. At least this is somewhat relevant to today.

Duran Duran always come up with the goods. Nice video, and classy. A great band, and better now than ever before. Well done lads!
