Bridget Cross: indie rock Renaissance woman

Posted September 11th, 2008 by eric

Since her relatively low-maintenance days as bassist and lead singer of Velocity Girl, Bridget Cross has mapped out an impressive life trajectory, as this Juneau Empire article details. If you’re old enough, you may know her best as bassist and some-time singer for Unrest, the pioneers of the D.C. indie rock scene from the early to mid 1990’s. She abandoned the rock life-style for more spiritual and esoteric adventures out west and in Alaska, where she even spent some time in prison. Much of her travails were chronicled in her return to music as Maybe It’s Reno, released this past spring by former Unrest bandmate Mark Robinson’s Teenbeat Records. But her story is pretty unbelievable. She has been everything from a DJ to a glacier guide to a fry cook to a yoga instructor to a musician.
