The new Wedding Present single off this year’s El Rey may have a very Wedding Present sounding name in “Don’t Take Me Home until I’m Drunk”, but the tune seems more suitable for Gedge’s other band, Cinerama, with its soft and jangly approach-that is until the guitars kick in at the end.
In other news, the band is covering The Cure for Just Like Heaven– another ubiquitous Cure tribute set for release in January 2009 via American Laundromat Records. Unfortunately, Gedge is tackling one of The Cure’s worst singles, “High” off 1992’s Wish. Ugh. But the compilation also features Tanya Donnelly, Black Frances, and Dean & Britta, so there might be some choice selections from The Cure’s deep canon.
