A founder and leader of The Cramps for decades, Lux Interior has died at age 62 of an existing heart condition. My introduction to The Cramps came by way of my roommate throughout my college years. He had an entire room in his house dedicated to the band, as well as an extensive collection of records and videos. “The Cramps Room” was covered in vintage posters of some of the band’s most famous shows. I had an opportunity to see The Cramps when I was a junior in high school, but my parents checked out who I was going to see and immediately refused to let me go. Ha. I can’t imagine why. I must admit I’ve always been rather perplexed by the popularity of The Cramps, particularly the people that were quite drawn to them.

I don’t dislike them, but I was never a huge fan. I recognize their influence on modern music and all that, of course. I kinda feel the same way about a lot of those influential ’70s bands. Ramones, Sex Pistols, New York Dolls, et al.
