Word of a possible new Pixies album is spreading. The PR firm, Artists In Residence, had a splash page up yesterday, which announced that pre-orders will be taken for something called Minotaur by the Pixies beginning June 15th. This is a reputable firm, so it’s likely that this is legit. Whether this is a full-length or an EP or even just a single is unknown. I imagine this news will burn up the blogs today, so more information will invariably leak soon. I would be both anxious and hesitant about a new Pixies record. Well, mostly just nervous for them. Following up what was considered your final album 18 years after the fact is an overwhelming task. The band is touring this year, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that a new release would be in tow. It’s just surprising since all the new record rumors had been previously quashed by Kim Deal.
UPDATE: And the moment I publish this post new information becomes available. Not a new album. It’s a super deluxe box set of remastered repackaged Pixies albums, according to Rolling Stone.

The guy who is overseeing this boxset told Rolling Stone that he “didn’t want to touch the original master recordings.” So, the albums are not remastered. 😉
