After a pretty flawless performance on SNL a few weeks ago, it seemed unlikely the chat show sound gods would allow Phoenix to pull off another great performance, but they proved last night on Letterman that their luck has not run out. “1901” is an insanely infectious single, and, hell, the whole record is ace. One of the best of the year so far.
