Sad news. Indie legend Chris Knox has suffered a stroke. He is recovering in a hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. If you don’t know who he is, read up here, but, suffice it to say, he’s a bad ass songwriter and performer.

Half of New Order hook up with Blur’s Alex James to form Bad Lieutenant
June 15th, 2009
I wasn’t too broken up about New Order’s acrimonious demise in 2007, since the last few records weren’t exactly up to par, but the split seems to be permanent this time. In fact, Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris have started a new band with touring New Order guitarist Phil Cunningham (who replaced Morris’ wife Gillian […]
As Blur rehearses, my inner teenage girl explodes
June 12th, 2009
A smattering of clips have surfaced showing Blur rehearsing for its comeback concert at Hyde Park (and the smaller warm up club gigs, of course). Things are sounding awfully good, even in this rough footage leaked to build excitement around the band’s obligatory compilation, Midlife: A Beginners Guide To Blur. VIDEO: Depeche Mode “Peace”
June 12th, 2009
Depeche Mode has dabbled in grandiose gestures throughout its career, so it’s not surprising that the second single from Sounds of the Universe is a bit heavy-handed. June 11th, 2009
Second single and video from Cursive‘s excellent, still-in-heavy-rotation Mama, I’m Swollen stars an all-grown-up, ahem, Tania Raymonde, who plays Benjamen Linus’ (dead?) daughter Alex on Lost. Lead singer Tim Kasher explained the video thusly to Spinner: “The idea for the video is a gross exaggeration of the ‘trophy wife’ concept — grooms hunting down brides, […]
VIDEO: Sonic Youth “Sacred Trickster” on The Late Show with David Letterman 06.10.2009
June 11th, 2009
It pleases me to no end to see Sonic Youth rocking out like this after years and years of not doing so. That’s not to say I haven’t appreciated any Sonic Youth records since, oh I don’t know, Dirty, but the band hasn’t been this blatantly rocking in a very long time. The only Sonic […]
