With her first note of new music in seven years, Fiona Apple is readying both a tour and the release of her long awaited fourth long player ridiculously titled The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do. But you know what? When that girl is mad, her titles get crazy. And when her titles get crazy, the music gets venomous. This first taste isn’t Apple in attack mode, but the controlled restraint is certainly tense. I remember seeing her on that short-lived IFC show “Icons,” where she was paired up with Quentin Tarantino. They interviewed each other, which was weird enough, but Apple said that she only makes records when she has something to say. More artists should follow her lead instead of the record company-induced promotional cycle. Either way, looking forward to the new record. [via Spin]

“I just made a meal for us both to choke on.”
I could pick her lyrics out of a lineup.
