Davy Jones, the lead singer of The Monkees died today of a heart attack in Florida. He was 66. I was 12 when MTV ran insane marathons of reruns of The Monkees’ TV show, which I watched obsessively. No matter who actually played which instruments on the albums, the Head soundtrack is classic.

VIDEO: Gorillaz (feat. Andre 3000 and James Murphy) “DoYaThing”
February 29th, 2012
Jamie Hewlett’s CGI version of Gorillaz is kind of amazing. Best video I’ve seen in a long time. And Damon Albarn has penned another infectious jam. Throw in James Murphy and Andre 3000, and it’s even harder to resist. All in the name of Converse.

VIDEO: School of Seven Bells “Lafaye”
February 27th, 2012

VIDEO: The Drums “Days”
February 24th, 2012
New single from one of my favorite records of last year. The Drums have an uncanny knack for creating catchy as hell earworms, as I keep returning to this album again and again. Blur Live at the Brit Awards
February 22nd, 2012
Blur received a Brit award last night for “outstanding contribution to music.” The band played an 11-minute set consisting of career-spanning highlights (“Girls & Boys,” “Song 2,” “Parklife,” “Tender,” and my all-time favorite Blur song, “This Is A Low”). Having just played a few nights prior at the War Child benefit (see previous post), this […]

VIDEO: Madonna “Give Me All Your Luvin’ (Feat. M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj)”
February 9th, 2012
A lot of people hatin’ on that Superbowl performance. Yeah, she was clearly miming, but I thought she was more entertaining than any performer for the past ten years save Prince. And I think her new single is beyond catchy.
