At a stop in Kentucky yesterday, Cursive played a free in-store at CD Central. Stripping down to acoustic guitar, Tim Kasher pulled out an obscure Cure cover with “The Lovecats” off The Cure’s stop-gap compilation Japanese Whispers from 1983. It’s kind of a shitty recording, but the cover is amusing, if you happen to like […]

VIDEO: Cursive “I Couldn’t Love You”
June 11th, 2009
Second single and video from Cursive‘s excellent, still-in-heavy-rotation Mama, I’m Swollen stars an all-grown-up, ahem, Tania Raymonde, who plays Benjamen Linus’ (dead?) daughter Alex on Lost. Lead singer Tim Kasher explained the video thusly to Spinner: “The idea for the video is a gross exaggeration of the ‘trophy wife’ concept — grooms hunting down brides, […]
Cursive’s Tim Kasher fights Peter Pan
April 29th, 2009
Good interview with Cursive’s Tim Kasher over at the A.V. Club. He talks about his band’s sporadic output, living in a constant state of suspended adolescence, and not being able to listen to some of his own songs. I’ve always found Kasher an enigmatic songwriter. My first impression of him was as sort of a […]

The joint venture is in honor of the second annual Record Store Day on April […]

Cursive “From the Hips” video
March 27th, 2009
Cursive’s “From the Hips” took a few listens before I became obsessed with it. Now, I simply can’t get enough. Their wildly raucous recent performance on Letterman sealed the deal for me. Tim Kasher’s had the dynamics game in his pocket for years, but now he’s able to spin a yarn that’s not claustrophobic and […]
Cursive “From the Hips” on The Late Show with David Letterman 03.13.2009
March 15th, 2009
Cursive made its network TV debut on Letterman Friday night, performing the dynamic and emotional “From the Hips” off its sixth studio album, Mama, I’m Swollen, out now on Saddle Creek. Love it when the horns come in. Kasher lets out some classic bellows, and Letterman seemed genuinely impressed.

Cursive’s Mama, I’m Swollen coming in March
February 2nd, 2009
The new Cursive record, Mama, I’m Swollen, will be out March 10, 2009 via Saddle Creek. It’s the band’s sixth studio album and follows the sorely underrated Happy Hollow from 2006. With Cursive’s penchant for heavy-handed, thematically driven song cycles, chances are good that Mama, I’m Swollen will follow suit, though that title, as awesome […]
