An opportunistic interviewer brought his bass to a meeting with Joy Division/New Order four-stringer Peter Hook back in 2001 to see if he were playing Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart” correctly. He was not, and Hook grabbed the bass and schooled him right. Pretty amazing. [via Slicing Up Eyeballs]

The New Order Reunion Is a Joke without Peter Hook
November 11th, 2011 · 1 Comment
New Order reunited recently to help raise money for friend and video-producer Michael Shamberg, as he fights a debilitating illness. Well, some of New Order reunited. Bassist Peter Hook was sadly absent from the festivities. Not every band’s bassist is integral to its sound. Some bass players are, in fact, totally replaceable. However, Peter Hook […]

Peter Hook Dangles Unfinished Joy Division Song over Completists’ Heads on New EP
April 27th, 2011 · Comments Off on Peter Hook Dangles Unfinished Joy Division Song over Completists’ Heads on New EP
Whether or not your down with Joy Division bassist Peter Hook touring his old band’s debut album with his kid and a few hired guns in tow is one thing. Purchasing an EP of Joy Division covers by said crew is another. I couldn’t imagine patronizing either one. But somebody must be, or I wouldn’t […]

Peter Hook and Perry Farrell Play Joy Division’s “Transmission” Live in L.A.

I’m still a bit weirded out by the fact that Peter Hook is touring his former band’s debut album with a group of unknowns. That former band being Joy Division, whose legacy has remained untarnished all these years. It’s a questionable “tribute” to say the least. One can’t help but take the cynical view on […]

Half of New Order hook up with Blur’s Alex James to form Bad Lieutenant

I wasn’t too broken up about New Order’s acrimonious demise in 2007, since the last few records weren’t exactly up to par, but the split seems to be permanent this time. In fact, Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris have started a new band with touring New Order guitarist Phil Cunningham (who replaced Morris’ wife Gillian […]
Peter Hook discusses Joy Division’s enduring legacy
February 25th, 2009 · Comments Off on Peter Hook discusses Joy Division’s enduring legacy
Part 3 of Filter’s interview with Peter Hook focuses on Joy Division’s enduring legacy. Hook seems remarkably grounded, especially considering his former band’s utter ubiquity as of late. I suppose he’s had 30 years to reconcile that whole experience, which must seem surreal now that’s it’s been immortalized on film. Hook on how Ian Curtis’ […]
