Saw a tweet scroll by this morning that mentioned this and then K reminded in an email, so I have no excuse not to post. The Walkmen are participating in another round of The A.V. Club’s Undercover series. This time it’s Holiday Undercover for, well, obvious reasons, and to comply with the theme The Walkmen chose Lindsey Buckingham’s “Holiday Road,” which I assume everyone remembers from National Lampoon’s Vacation. When I first read that this was the song they were covering I was slightly puzzled. It certainly doesn’t suit the band’s typically august melancholy. And then I wondered how Hamilton Leithauser’s voice would accommodate such a high-pitched tune because Buckingham is no slouch vocally in the original. Well, the band put on their party hats and knocked out a faithful rendition. Leithauser even croaks his way into Buckingham territory on the chorus.
Love this track. So very Diplo.
I thought for sure that my love for this album would wane over time, but I still love it as much as I did 6 months ago. Definitely in my Top 10 of 2010, which I should probably start putting together.
I’ve never been a huge fan of Klaxons, but this video is fascinating.
A fun trip down memory lane for anyone that was a college radio DJ in late ’80s or early ’90s. (via Logan via Twitter)
p.s. This letter from Drag City to Marc is awesome.
Googling for a video of that Stars cover of This Charming Man led me to Theophilus London‘s “Humdrum Town” from 2009’s underrated* This Charming Mixtape which I had heard a while back but never paid much attention to at the time. (*underrated by me, I suppose, since I didn’t give it more than one listen.)
