The soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino’s half of Grindhouse, Death Proof, comes in a bad ass limited edition leatherette puffy sleeve with foil stamped logo. The LP vinyl version has a unique blood splatter on each record, and it’s also available as a 7″ box set. Tarantino certainly knows how to market his junk. The soundtrack itself is packed with typical Tarantino obscurities, which are forgotten gems by Willy DeVille, The Coasters, Joe Tex, and April March.
Less fetishistic in its packaging but equally cool aurally is Robert Rodriguez’s self-composed soundtrack to the first half of Grindhouse, Planet of Terror, which is full of retro-futuristic, eerie keyboard drones.
And, finally, America officially sucks for not going to see this gloriously depraved double-feature, as it ranked a mere fourth at the box office over the weekend. I suppose it’s unsurprising given that this country is filled with puritanical fruitcakes and tasteless troglodytes who prefer idiot-fare like the Ice Cube vehicle Are We Done Yet?
