What? Well, it’s less of a mind-fuck when you find out that Nuno Bettencourt was also the guitarist for the ultra-cheesy 80’s hair metal band Extreme. Granted, Extreme rolled in a higher sphere of cheese than Journey ever did, but the pairing isn’t completely bizarre. The fact that Buttencourt is also in a band with former Jane’s Addiction leader Perry Ferrell is a bit of a head-scratcher, however. No word on what will become of the Buttencourt/Perry collaboration as of yet.

Why is this so inplausibl? Perry is an amazing vocalist and if you could look beyond what Rolling Stone ingrained you so well to think about Extreme. Nuno was and IS a motherfucker on guitar. Just like Steve’s Journey guitarist Neal Schon.
