It’s old news that iPods and podcasts and even Myspace have taken a huge bite out of corporate radio’s audience and influence. Now, in a last ditch effort to sustain some semblance of relevance, clusterfucky, Clear Channel type stations are embracing the Internet as a means of reaching out to listeners, but it may be way too little way too late, as Internet Radio stations have been cropping up everywhere from basements to dormrooms for years, fracturing the template for corporate listener shares. And just because Vibegrrl at Hot 99.5 signed up for an AIM account doesn’t mean her station’s woes are even close to being over, despite a ruling which forces Internet radio stations to increase royalty payments. Commercial radio’s laughably sad grasp for power only exacerbates its anachronistic reputation. Off with its head!
