So, the fact that the soundtrack to Anton Corbijn’s forthcoming Ian Curtis biopic, Control, contains a fair share of both Joy Division and New Order is to be expected. What’s not expected or even remotely welcome is The Killers’ version of Joy Division’s “Shadowplay.” No one wants to hear that nonsense, for God’s sake. Just the thought of sitting through it fills me with dread. The Killers? Honestly? That’s the best band the soundtrack committee could come up with to do justice to a Joy Division song? Other than that the track list looks better than fine, excepting the potential disaster of the “cast version” of “Transmission.”

I bet they’re hoping that alternative radio DJs will be able to insert Shadowplay into their playlists because it’s The Killers and that’s “more acceptable” than playing the original, which is twenty plus years old. Perhaps?

i understand having someone current do the cover…but the killers? they’re up there with the bravery for worst retro retread in my book. and especially now that they claim to sound like bruce springsteen, it just seems like a completely wrong direction.

I think the Killers are a great choice to cover “Shadowplay” people are so resistant to change it’s so annoying. People need to move with the times and realize that of course it will not be as good as the orginal a cover one never is, but please who would you want to cover this song?

So The Killers are a bunch of Mormon twats – everyone knows, and more importantly, can hear it. Their were a few semi-decent cuts off “Hot Fuss,” and while “Sam’s Town” indeed sucked a big one, you gotta give ’em some kind of credit for at least not pandering to a ready-made audience expecting “Mr. Brightside” Part Deux. Furthermore, there are plenty of worse songs than “Read My Mind.” Be that as it may, I can’t in good conscience condone this move. Glad to see Kraftwerk got on there though.

i’m only averse to change when it’s embarrassing and an obvious bid for commercialism. hey, let’s get some hack 80’s retread shit band to try to get some of the kids to buy this soundtrack. i’d honestly prefer rosanne barr to the killers. at least that would be interesting on some level.

Now does the song really suck, or do u just hate it because they are pop? i bet u sit around talking about awesome Bloc Party is, but next year you’ll be hating them because they finally got a mainstream following.

I just picked up a copy of the CONTROL soundtrack and the Killers version of Shadowplay is SO GOOD! It comes right after “What Goes On” by Velvet Underground and an audio clip from the (highly recommended) movie and works perfectly. This is seriously a next level cover…..At the very least, give it a listen and see for yourself before you hate on it just because of who plays it……..

Yo.As a hardcore Joy Division fan who was around back then I love the Killers version, and I’m not a huge fan of theirs but I think they have some good tracks. The best thing about the cover is that it is not full reverence and just goes for an un selfconscious kick off. I like alot, amybe lots of bands could have done it better , muse, interpol, radiohead….but they did’nt.

Purists and eclectic listeners won’t agree to anything, big surprise. I am of the latter persuasion and LIKED the Killer version.
