Blur plans to record a new album as a four-piece for the first time this decade, according to bassist Alex James. The band’s last record, 2003’s Think Tank, only featured guitarist Graham Coxon on one song, while its last record as a quartet, 13, came out in the spring of 1999. James is optimistic after texting his erstwhile bandmate and actually garnering a response:
“We’re all talking. It’s important for us emotionally not to leave Blur as an unfinished thing. It could be good musically as well.” And speaking toward the possible musical direction, James added, “Good guitars would be good. But I mainly talk to Graham about mandolins and prog music.”
The band is rumored to enter the studio as soon as next month.
