Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty’s Babyshambles have collaborated on a new song. Just being in the same room with these two people at the same time would in all likelihood cause any innocent bystander to imbibe heaps of illegal substances, while indirectly catching a contact high of considerable measure. By some miracle, Winehouse, Doherty, and his bandmates were all able to make it through the session without over-dosing. Guitarist Mik Whitnall claims Winehouse is a damn fine guitar player: “She plays better than James Brown playing acoustic guitar. She thinks she’s shit but she’s not. I’ve never met a girl who plays like that, let alone a man.” The resulting tune is reportedly bordering on the much-maligned ska strain- a genre Brits never seem to tire of but Americans have long-forgotten. Perhaps, this will inspire yet another wave? As much as I’d like to hear it, if it means more ska, I can live without it.
