An astounding performance by Sinéad O’Connor at the Pinkpop festival in 1988. It’s almost disturbing watching her teeter on the brink of a complete meltdown. She seems so innocent and small with that shaved head, as she’s swallowed up by the stage and the enormous crowd, but she belts out the song with that unmistakable schizophrenic banshee wail, keeping the entire crowd on pins and needles. It’s an acoustic version of “Troy”- one of the most tense and affecting break-up songs ever recorded off her equally tense and affecting debut, The Lion and the Cobra.

Nice find. I don’t think I’ve heard Troy in over a decade, maybe 2.
