Stephin Merritt scores stage version of Coraline

Posted May 6th, 2009 by eric

The stage version of Nel Gaiman’s ‘Coraline’ is previewing in New York this week with music by Stephin Merritt of The Magnetic Fields. The perennially blissful Merritt is busting at the seams with his usual brand of enthusiasm, telling Spinner dryly, “I don’t get excited.” Ah, well, ok. He continues: “I’m not that type of person. I’m not having that feeling yet and that feeling will probably be something more like terror. Probably there will be something going horribly wrong at the last moment, as usually there is, and I’ll have to figure out how to solve it while worrying that I won’t succeed.” Inspirational words for aspiring composers.

    Hi Eric,

Nice post on the musical. My associate is working on this project, but I keep track of it as well.

I wanted to get in touch about the artist Matthew Barber who just release his US debut for drawer b consideration. He begins a US tour next week and I’d love to send a link to download the record and additional details.
