Blur’s Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon reunite at NME Shockwaves Awards
February 26th, 2009
Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon made a surprise appearance at the NME Shockwaves Awards, taking the stage after almost a decade to play a low-key version of its classic “This Is A Low” from the Parklife album, of course. Unfortunately, no videos of the performance have leaked yet (that I can find), but this post-show […]
RETRO: Pixies “Tame” live at Brixton Academy 1991
February 25th, 2009
It’s no secret that Black Francis has one of the best screams in rock, but his blood curdling, cathartic spasm on the Pixies’ classic “Tame” is untouchable. Kurt Cobain learned more than a few tricks from Mr. Francis’ guttural shrieks and put them to fine use. I was helpfully reminded of this by The Guardian’s […]

Phoenix is back! New album out in May.
February 24th, 2009
I have a soft spot for French pop, from Filles in the Garage style ’60s pop to Serge and Françoise to the twee tunes of Tahiti 80. Phoenix, while definitely falling under the French pop umbrella, manage to transcend that label and have delivered some of the best pop music of this decade. The new […]
Depeche Mode “Wrong” live at Echo Awards
February 23rd, 2009
Depeche Mode debuted its new single, “Wrong”, at the Echo Awards in Germany this past weekend. Not sure how “live” the drums are in this clip, but Dave Gahan sounds like he’s really singing. May take a […]

Cut Off Your Hands “Turn Cold” video
February 23rd, 2009
Also heard this over the weekend on Sirius XMU. A small bit of traveling allowed me to listen to the radio a good bit, turning me onto some new bands. Pitchfork describes them as “pop-punk”- the “pop” part I understand, the “punk” part, not so much. Very catchy, upbeat, and lo-fi. Reminds me somewhat of […]

Lady Gaga & Brandon Flowers With The Pet Shop Boys at Brit Awards
February 20th, 2009
This is a couple days old. Sorry. Man, I love(d) Pet Shop Boys in the ’80s, but I just don’t dig on medleys. Ever. Amusingly, this is the second “duet” we’ve posted this week. I think I prefer the Ellen/Lily one. I could have done without Mr. Flowers and Lady Gaga.
