Replacements Documentary Debuting at Florida Film Festival

Hardcore Replacements fans are notoriously, well, crazy, and director Gorman Bechard is betting that even those mildly interested in The Replacements might want to see these fans flaunt their crazy in a long-awaited documentary entitled “Color Me Obsessed.” The film “about the only band that ever mattered” makes its premiere at the Gasparilla International Film Festival in Tampa, Florida on March 26, 2011. With over 140 interviews, the film purports to be “the potentially true story of the most influential, always drunk, self-destructive, and yet frighteningly brilliant rock band of all time as told through the eyes of their fans, followers and fellow musicians.” Amongst those interviewed for the film include members of Hüsker Dü, The Hold Steady, The Decemberists, and Goo Goo Dolls. Watch a few select trailers for the documentary:

VIDEO: Arctic Monkeys “Brick by Brick”

The first taste of Arctic Monkeys’ fourth LP has surfaced. With the album not due out until summer, the band seems to be getting a head start here. This first single, “Brick by Brick,” is yet another departure for the Sheffield quartet. After throwing fans for a loop on Humbug, their Josh Homme-produced exploration of psychedelic hard rock back in 2009, the boys have opted here for a much more melodic track. The verse starts out with a bit of a penchant for glam but quickly resolves into a Beatles-esque set of harmonies, which honestly kind of recall Definitely Maybe-era Oasis.

Who took the bomp? A Le Tigre Documentary?

Odd, but potentially entertaining. I still remember seeing my first Le Tigre show at the old Justice League in San Francisco. Absolutely blew my mind at the time. I had flirted with Kathleen Hanna’s music in the past, but nothing from her had ever punched me in the face quite like that live show. And while Le Tigre kind of petered out after that debut album, it still stands as one of my favorite records of all time. Looking forward to seeing this doc.

VIDEO: Radiohead “Lotus Flower”

If you pre-ordered Radiohead’s The King of Limbs, you may now download the digital version, a full 24 hours earlier than expected. I’m on my first listen as I type, but the volume is too low to get the full impact because I can’t crank it at work. Only eight songs, but they are mostly between four and five minutes long.

Up Too High – Jesus and Mary Chain circa 1983

Given Stephin Merritt’s admiration for Jesus & Mary Chain, I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised at how much this sounds like a long lost Magnetic Fields song.
